A grieving couple in Texas had their spirits lifted by an altruistic 21-year-old waitress. Just about a month earlier, Debbie and Shaun Riddle visited a cafe in Fort Worth, one they often frequent, with their newborn baby girl. Tragically, their infant died of unknown causes shortly thereafter. Still grieving a month later, the couple went to the restaurant for a meal where Kayla Lane, their waitress, remembered them from a previous visit they made with the baby in tow, and asked the couple about the child. Lane said Shaun responded in a somber tone that “She passed away four weeks ago.” Lane was stunned by the response, “served them with the best service that I could,” and then picked up their tab, with a poignant note written on a check. Debbie went home and recounted the story, and how Lane declined to accept a tip, in a post on Facebook, adding, “We hear so much negativity on the news and so that is why I felt led to share this story in hopes that Kayla and this restaurant will get some good recognition.” Indeed they did — Debbie’s Facebook post amassed almost 20,000 likes and more than 10,000 shares, which led to a flurry of news coverage.
