Negotiations for Natalie Portman to star in On The Basis of Sex, a biopic of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, stalled for one reason: Portman wanted a woman director behind the camera. “There are not enough women in this industry” and “there are many talented out there,” Portman told Ginsburg, according to remarks the Justice made at a recent legal conference. The woman for the job, Deadline Hollywood reported, is likely to be Marielle Heller, who recently directed The Diary of a Teenage Girl. The Ginsburg film will focus on her work fighting for gender equality. Daniel Stiepleman, the nephew of her late husband Martin Ginsburg, wrote the script for the film.
