Rachel Dolezal, a civil rights activist in Washington state, has been misrepresenting herself as African American for years, her parents revealed yesterday. Dolezal, 37, serves as president of the NAACP’s Spokane chapter, teaches African Studies at Eastern Washington University and regularly speaks to local media about racial justice issues. She’s claimed on at least one job application that she’s partly black, and she’s pretended that her adopted black siblings are biological. Dolezal’s parents — who are estranged from their daughter — finally blew her cover, telling a local TV station yesterday that Rachel, like them, is Caucasian. They released a copy of her birth certificate and a picture of Rachel as a child, looking white.
