Doreetha Daniels, along with her classmates, proudly graduated from the College of the Canyons with an associate’s degree last week. What sets her apart, however, is her age: at 99 years old, she’s the oldest graduate in the college’s history. Daniels has lived through pivotal moments in U.S. history, including the Great Depression, the first U.S. moon landing expedition, and the rise of the Internet. Perhaps what is most inspirational has been Daniels’ personal obstacles, including issues with her sight and hearing as well as multiple strokes. Despite this, she tells prospective students, “Don’t give up. Do it.”
