Most of the reaction to Bruce Jenner’s public transition to Caitlyn Jenner this week was positive and reassuring. But there were several instances of intolerant rhetoric lobbed at Jenner on social media. Just a week ago, rapper Snoop Dogg was making headlines for the kindler, gentler Snoop he claimed he’d become. A Snoop that respects and is “accepting” of women. However, that acceptance doesn’t appear to extend to women who once identified as men. Snoop Dogg was one of many who shared a mean-spirited meme online this week that compared media coverage of Caitlyn Jenner with a charitable cause backed by rapper Akon. Snoop shared a post on his Instagram feed that reads, “Shout out to Akon! He is about to supply 60 million africans (sic) with solar power. Im (sic) really upset that this isn’t major news but that science project bruce jenner (sic) is #Society.” Other celebs and athletes shared the meme as well, but some deleted it. As of this writing, Snoop’s is still live on his Instagram feed.
