Over the past decade, Katie Dowd has watched social media grow from an afterthought to a priority for political campaigns. Now, the self-described “people geek” is directing the team that manages Hillary Clinton’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social pages. Dowd majored in sociology before turning to politics, moving from Illinois to D.C. and working in a variety of roles in politics and fundraising. She honed her marketing skills at a direct mail firm before landing gigs with the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Dowd’s goal, she told Fortune, is “letting people feel like they are part of the real-time movement of a campaign.”
