First it was Granny Hair. Now, granny panties have emerged as the latest trend younger women are adopting from their foremothers. A report in the New York Times indicates that sales of thongs have dipped seven percent over the last year. On the flip side, sales of fuller underwear styles are up 17 percent. But there’s more to this trend than just sales figures. “I only wear granny panties,” Julia Baylis, 22, told the Times. Baylis and her friend launched the boutique clothing label Me and You, and the design duo’s top-selling item is a pair of white granny panties with the word “Feminist” printed across the backside in pink lettering. It was just introduced last month and has already sold out. “Most lingerie is designed to appeal to a man,” Baylis told the Times. “For us, that’s not even a consideration. This is underwear you wear totally for you. Maybe no one will see it, or maybe you’ll put it up on Instagram to share with everyone you know.”
