Utah will soon be home to what may be the nation’s first girls-only tackle football league. Brent Gordon, a co-founder of the program told The Huffington Post that the initial league will include four teams and rosters for fifth and sixth graders filled up in less than a week after being announced. “Their daughters had been begging them to play tackle football, but parents were concerned about letting them play with the boys. That’s what this league is all about: fulfilling the dreams of girls who want to play football,” Gordon reportedly said. He is the father of Sam Gordon, a young Utah girl who scored a Wheaties cover after her football highlight reel went viral in 2012 and she will have a presence in the league. Games are set to begin on Saturday.
