Ex-NFL player pleads guilty to posting “revenge porn”

Former New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Cunningham, 26, pleaded guilty on Thursday to posting sexually revealing images of his then-girlfriend on social media last December. Cunningham posted photos depicting the woman’s inner thigh, groin and buttocks on Instagram without her permission — and then tagged her in the posts. Nice guy. He pleaded guilty to a third-degree invasion of privacy charge and an unrelated gun charge and will be put on probation, the length of which will be decided at a hearing next month. The judge in the case said that had Cunningham gone to trial and been convicted he would’ve faced a prison sentence of up to 18 months. New Jersey was one of the first states to outlaw the distribution of sexually-revealing images of a people without their consent, and Cunningham’s case is one of the highest-profile instances of the growing “revenge porn” problem in the U.S.
