Vienna gets gay traffic lights

The Austrian capital decided to replace the traditional lone figure on traffic lights at 120 pedestrian crossings, to show both gay and heterosexual couples crossing the road. Officials see the change as a signal of Vienna’s open-mindedness, and also hope it will increase traffic safety as the signals attract the attention of drivers and pedestrians. The change comes ahead of the city hosting the Eurovision Song Festival, which traditionally draws a huge gay fan base, and was won last year by bearded transvestite Conchita Wurst with “Rise like a Phoenix,” a performance that turned her into a global gay icon over night.
