One of the most senior North Korean officials to ever defect from the hermit kingdom has revealed that Kim Jong Un allegedly ordered his own aunt, blood relative Kim Kyong Hui, to be poisoned because she was vocally angry about her husband’s death a few months prior. Her husband, Jang Song Thaek, who was the nation’s second-most powerful figure, was executed by Kim’s regime for allegedly being a “traitor for all ages.” The defector cites financial difference as the motive behind the killing. While Jang suggested that the government should spend funds building up the economy, the dictator is said to have wanted to build a ski resort and a water park instead. After Jang was out of the picture, Kim Jong Un couldn’t tolerate his grieving wife’s complaints either, the defector said. “On May 5th or 6th of last year,” the defector said, “Kim Jong Un ordered his aunt, Kim Kyong Hui, to be killed. Only his bodyguard unit, Unit 974, knew this — now senior officials also know she was poisoned.” It’s estimated that the supreme leader has ordered the execution of at least 15 senior officials this year alone.
