On Sunday, President Obama called three mothers on the telephone to wish them a happy Mother’s Day — much to their surprise. “Not uh … no way,” Stephanie Tarr reportedly said when the president identified himself on the phone. Each of the women Obama called had written to him at some point over the last year and Tarr, from Minnesota, had sent a letter to Obama thanking the first family for all the good they do for the country. Dawn Miller of Arizona and Patricia Church of Florida were the other two women who received a surprise call from the president. “I know how tough it is to raise kids and do right by them and if it hadn’t been for my mother, I certainly wouldn’t be here,” President Obama said to one of the mothers he spoke with. His mother, Ann Dunham, died in 1995.
