Republican Carly Fiorina, who announced her intention to run for president on Monday, is already on the defensive. Critics have been attacking her 1999-2005 tenure as CEO of technology giant Hewlett-Packard. One of her detractors registered the website carlyfiorina.org, and used it to draw attention to the layoffs Fiorina oversaw. Visitors to the site are confronted with 30,000 frowning emoticons, representing the Hewlett-Packard employees she fired. “When you managed through a technology recession, every technology company – every one – laid people off,” Fiorina told Yahoo’s Katie Couric on Monday. “It’s a terrible decision to have to make.”
