India is once again back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. A woman was seriously injured and her 13-year-old daughter was killed after the two leapt from a moving bus in the city of Moga. The mother, 35, was reportedly being sexually assaulted by the vehicle’s assistant conductor. The woman, on her way to visit family in a neighboring village, jumped off the bus with her daughter and left her 14-year-old son behind. After the two crashed to the ground, witnesses on the scene reportedly rushed them to a hospital where the daughter later died. Officials reportedly said two suspects were arrested in connection with the assault. The incident is the latest in a country that is coming to grips with a disturbing culture of rape that’s drawing worldwide attention.
