Netizens are reeling from the recent announcement that acclaimed television director Michelle MacLaren will no longer be directing the movie Wonder Woman. Citing “creative differences,” which could mean pretty much anything, Warner Brothers and the Emmy-winning director have consciously uncoupled. “Wonder Woman,” which will star Gal Gadot, would have been MacLaren’s first feature film. She’s proven herself as a showrunner behind the camera of episodes from The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Breaking Bad. MacLaren would’ve also been the first female director to lead a major comic book/superhero film in almost a decade. It’s not clear if the movie’s release will be delayed, or if a male director will take the reins, or if our Wonder Woman will be unnecessarily underdressed. But as girls demand more female superheroes, we demand more female filmmakers for their movies.
