Malala Yousafzai, the teenage activist who survived being shot in the head by a Taliban gunman, went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize — but now she may have been given an even cooler honor. Amy Mainzer, the astronomer who discovered the two-and-a-half-mile wide asteroid has named it after Malala. The official name of the space rock is now “316210 Malala.” It orbits the sun every five-and-a-half years in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. On her decision to immortalize Malala by naming an asteroid after her, Mainza said, “If anyone deserves to have an asteroid named after them, she does!” Indeed!
