Authorities in Panama City, Fla. have arrested two suspects in connection with a gang rape that occurred on a beach during spring break festivities last month. According to Bay County sheriff Frank McKeithen, the incident initially went unreported until cellphone video of the shocking crime surfaced recently. McKeithen said the video shows several men sexually assaulting an incapacitated woman who was lying on a beach chair. As the victim tried to defend herself, people can be heard on the video saying, “she isn’t going to know,” according to the sheriff. McKeithen said the attack occurred in broad daylight in front of hundreds of witnesses, none of whom intervened. Spring break revelers who watched the attack unfold were “more concerned about spilling their beer than somebody being raped,” McKeithen said at a press conference, noting that he expects more arrests to be made this week. He was outraged by the incident comparing the incident to “wild animals preying on a carcass laying in the woods” and said the video was the “most disgusting, sickening thing” he’d ever seen.
