Guests at the White House no longer have to choose between male and female restrooms. A spokesman revealed yesterday that visitors to 1600 Pennsylvania will now have the option of using a gender-neutral bathroom. That announcement is the administration’s latest in a string of inclusive gestures toward the gay and transgender communities. On Wednesday, President Obama issued an executive order outlawing discrimination against gay and transgender employees of federal agencies. Last month, he acknowledged the struggles of gay Americans in a speech in Selma, Alabama. And earlier this year, Obama became the first president to use the word “transgender” in a State of the Union address.
