Chelsea Manning, the Army intelligence analyst formerly known as Bradley Manning who was sentenced to 35 years in a military prison for leaking secret documents to WikiLeaks, spoke out to Cosmopolitan in a revealing interview. It’s the first interview she’s given since being locked away at Fort Leavenworth Prison in Kansas — a men’s military prison — and later revealing that she identifies as female. She describes life inside her small cell, surprisingly, reports that she hasn’t faced any harassment. The other inmates their are “adults” who are “very smart and sophisticated people,” according to Manning. She says she receives mail from transgender people all around the world who tell her she inspires them, but notes that she finds inspiration in the stories they share with her.
