The mother of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was found guilty on all counts by a Massachusetts jury on Wednesday for his role in the Boston Marathon bombing, lashed out in a bizarre statement in which she maintains his innocence. The note, insisting that her son is “the best of the best,” was reportedly sent to a family friend in Russia and then discovered on a social media website. “Tell everyone that I will never forget their support. May the creator bless them all for their support of my precious boy,” it reads. “America is the terrorist and everyone knows it! My son is the best of the best. I embrace everyone and thank you!” It’s not the first time that the Tsarnaev’s mother, a Russian native, has come to the defense of her son. In 2013, she told the Associated Press, “”I’m sick and tired of all this nonsense that they make up about me and my children.” A second hearing to start the bomber’s sentence could begin as early as next week, and will determine whether he will face the death penalty or not.
