Japanese centenarian beats 1500 meter swim record

Move over, Michael Phelps. This past weekend, Mieko Nagaoka became the first person over the age of 100 to complete a 1500 meter swim in a 25 meter pool. Nagaoka, who is currently 100 years old, was the only competitor in the Japan Masters Swimming Association’s 100-104 year old bracket (Japan, incidentally, boasts more centenarians than any other country in the world). Nagaoka completed the swim in just under an hour and 16 minutes. She has written a book titled I’m 100 Years Old and the World’s Best Active Swimmer, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know.
