In a historic announcement yesterday, the NFL has revealed that it will hire its first female full-time official, Sarah Thomas. The 42-year-old Thomas has officiated NCAA and NFL preseason football games before, and she’s also broken ground in the past for being the first woman to officiate a major NCAA football game in 2007. It’ll be refreshing to finally see a woman official in American football games. An anonymous NFL source told news site Football Zebras that “one or two female officials” would be added this year. Let’s hope we’re getting another one.
