Just before a contentious aid-in-dying bill was taken up on Capitol Hill this week, a posthumous video of Brittany Maynard was released. Maynard was a 29-year-old California woman who suffered from terminal brain cancer and decided to end her life last November by taking a mixture of life-ending drugs. In order to do so, though, she had to move with her family to Oregon, since California state “law prevented me from getting the end-of-life option I deserved,” she said in the video. Maynard’s story captivated the nation and ignited a debate about a patient’s right to die.
