A South Carolina woman and one-time supporter of same-sex marriage has, in a stunning essay, revealed she’s now a staunch opponent. Heather Barwick, 31, a mother of four and a self-proclaimed “daughter” of the gay community said her stance on the divisive issue is not for the reason many might think. She asserts that same-sex marriage and parenting withholds either a mom or a dad from a child. She used her own experience as an example. “I loved my mom’s partner, but another mom could never have replaced the father I lost,” she wrote. Critics of Barwick’s declaration say it’s fine for her to have that particular opinion, ‘but denying a huge swath of American citizens our civil rights is not the answer.” Yeah, not even close to the answer.
