After more than a decade spent practically in hiding, Monica Lewinsky broke her silence on Thursday with a speech at the TED 2015 conference in Vancouver, Canada. Lewinsky, infamous for her affair with President Clinton in the late 1990s and the ensuing media circus that followed, is now 41 years old and her talk, titled ‘The Price of Shame,’ centered on her harrowing experience with law enforcement and “cyberbullying” in the wake of the Clinton scandal. Lewinsky also emphasized the need for a cultural shift away from what she sees as the media’s obsession with shaming. The talk was a smash hit with the audience and reportedly “received the longest — and loudest — standing ovation of the conference.”
