Louisa May Alcott’s iconic novel Little Women — the period drama about the four March sisters coming of age during and after the Civil War — is set for another Hollywood remake in a uniquely women-centered production. Oscar-nominated screenwriter (as well as celebrated actress and director) Sarah Polley will be adapting the screenplay for Sony Pictures, while Amy Pascal, who recently stepped down as Sony’s co-chair in the wake of the North Korea hacking scandal, is on board as the producer. With Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord as her co-producers, it’s the type of women-driven project that is rarely seen in Hollywood. While Sony might have a couple of things to make up for after those leaked emails, recent projects like Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters and Chloe Moretz’s sci-fi movie The Fifth Wave, are giving us hope that the studio is headed in the right direction.
