Presbyterian Church approves same-sex marriage

The largest of America’s Presbyterian denominations gave its final approval on Tuesday to broaden the definition of marriage in its constitution to include same-sex marriage. “Finally, the church in its constitutional documents fully recognizes that the love of gays and lesbian couples is worth celebrating in the faith community,” said Rev Brian D. Ellison, an advocate of gay inclusion in the Presbyterian Church. The decision comes after three decades of debate and a gradual theological move to the left. In and after 2011, a host of more conservative church members left after the church decided to ordain gays and lesbians as pastors, elders and deacons. Hallelujah!
