Lego slammed for offering beauty tips to young girls

Lego, the toy company that manufactures tiny humans with detachable scalps, has taken it upon themselves to impart their hairstyling wisdom to little girls. Sharon Holbrook spotted a piece titled “Emma’s Beauty Tips” in her daughter’s Lego Club magazine and wrote about it for the New York Times’ Motherlode blog. The feature is associated with the Lego Friends hair salon set, which targets girls aged 6-12, and it includes suggestions on how to get the perfect hairstyle for your face shape. Unsurprisingly, the spread has been criticized for encouraging a whole mess of body image issues in girls far too young to be worrying about the shape of their head. But never fear: if you don’t want your daughter playing with the Lego Friends hair salon, you can buy her the infinitely less-gendered juice bar set.
