The uber successful creator of hit network shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” was honored with the Ally for Equality Award over the weekend for all she’s done in bringing diversity to small screen. However, in her acceptance speech took issue with the concept of diversity, saying, “I really hate the word.” Why? She said it suggests “there is something unusual about telling stories involving women and people of color and LGBTQ characters on TV. I have a different word,” she continued. “Normalizing. I’m normalizing TV.” Whatever it is Shonda’s doing, it’s working because her shows are cleaning up in the ratings.
